Open House and Riding

Demonstration at  Royal Blue GEM Enterprises

Meg and Frank Wall’s Royal Blue GEM Enterprises was a busy place this past Saturday afternoon.  While horses and riders warmed up in the arena, family and friends of the riders congregated in the barn enjoying hot apple cider and a variety of Christmas cookies, then it was on to the riding demonstrations.

Eight-year-old Tricia Christensen looked like a confident long-time rider when she entered the arena on Fritz, one of the Wall’s lesson horses, and went through five different ways to change directions while each move was being explained by Meg Wall.  Tricia had started lessons with Wall on a small pony and was afraid to turn loose of the horn.  She has since graduated to Fritz, 15.1 hands and much higher off the ground, and rides like she had grown up on him.

With the can’t-sit-still music of “Mambo No. 5” in the air, the blue diamonds, a group of eight ladies who range in ages from 3-somethings to age 72, entered the arena and went through their routine which included several dressage moves and in-unison horse drills. The routine included the five different ways to change directions they had learned.

Participants included Mary Rice, Blanchard; Jo Kenyon, McLoud; Stefani Delony, Norman; Connie Leiker, Norman; Margie Cox, Oklahoma City; Cynthia Johnson, Oklahoma City; Teresa Christensen, Washington; and Dottie Dishman, Oklahoma City.  Tricia Christensen is the daughter of Teresa Christensen.

In June, Meg Wall started a ladies Group Lesson on Tuesday nights at 6 p.m. The goal of the riders, most of whom had ridden as youth who now have time to continue riding, was to learn to fine tune their riding skills, get a better seat and balance, get in time with their horses, use their aids better, get good control of the horse and to have a social hour and enjoy themselves.  Some of the ladies have been with Wall since June, and others have been in the class maybe six weeks.

Wall was very pleased with their performance, but pointed out that this group is still a work in progress, and they will continue the class and keep working.

Wall plans another Ladies Group Lesson to be held weekly on Saturdays at 4 p.m.

2006 Guinness World Record Tallest Horse Comes to Royal Blue GEM Enterprises, LLC!!

Not long ago, we were visited by a Belgian Draft Horse that holds the 2006 Guinness World Record as tallest living horse. He came to Royal Blue GEM Enterprises, LLC to stay a few days while traveling through on their tour to promote Priefert Ranch Products at Stillwater Mill and Feed in Davis, OK. Radar is 19 hands 3 ˝ inches (6’ 7 1/2” at the withers) and weighs over 2, 400 pounds. Radar eats 18 lbs of grain, 40 lbs. of hay, and drinks 20 gallons of water each day. He was born in 1998 in Iowa, USA.

While staying with us, Radars’ handlers, Charles & Gilda Woods were kind enough to allow Frank to ride Radar around the ranch. What a thrill it was to be on such an incredibly wondrous horse! During their stay we also had an opportunity to watch Charles work Radar in the round pen. The earth shook under our feet as Radar traveled around the pen. It was breathtaking to watch this magnificent animal as Charles ran him through his exercise program.
